Beach Boy Brian Wilson’s life story to be told in Hollywood film

The colourful life story of Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson is to be turned into a major Hollywood film.

The producers say the biopic will take an ‘unconventional’ look at Wilson’s musical career and innovative creative processes, as well as his long struggle with mental health problems.

The script will be written by Oren Moverman, who created the screenplay for the unconventional Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There.

Queen’s last five studio albums to be re-issued in September

Remastered editions of Queen’s last five studio albums – The Works, A Kind Of Magic, The Miracle, Innuendo and Made In Heaven – will be re-issued on 5 September 2011 to coincide with what would have been Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday.

Recorded between 1984 and 1995, the albums include classic tracks such as ‘Radio Gaga’, ‘I Want To Break Free’, ‘One Vision’, ‘A Kind of Magic’, ‘I Want It All’, ‘The Miracle’ and ‘These Are The Days of Our Lives’.

Also released on the same day is Queen: Deep Cuts 3.

The Temptations to turn their Motown story into a Broadway musical

The Temptations are planning to turn their Motown success story into a Broadway musical based on the acclaimed 1998 TV mini-series about the legendary group.

   Otis Williams, 69 – the only surviving member of the original group – is said to be working with Broadway producer Ira Pittleman on a stage spectacular featuring all of the group’s classic hits.

The Who’s Pete Townshend working on Quadrophenia tour and remastered ‘Director’s Cut’ box-set

Pete Townshend is working on a “definitive” re-mastered box set of The Who’s 1973 double album Quadrophenia.

He also hints that The Who may mount a 2012 tour based on the classic album. The last Quadrophenia tour took place between 1996 and 1997.

The new deluxe box set – titled Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut –  will be released on 14 November 2011. It will include surround-sound mixes of selected tracks, newly restored demos of songs that didn’t make it onto the original album, a deluxe hardback book, and other exclusive material.

John Lennon ‘definitive’ biography to be published in September

Virgin Books is to release a “definitive” biography of John Lennon on 29 September to coincide with the 40th anniversary of his classic 1971 song ‘Imagine’.

   Titled Lennon: The Man, the Myth, the Music: A Definitive Life, the 800-page hardback book was written by music historian and journalist Tim Riley.
