Level 42 announce UK tour in October

Level 42 are set to play a series of concerts across the UK in October 2008, including London’s Royal Albert Hall on October 23.

The band’s line-up for the tour will be: Mark King (bass/vocals), Gary Husband (drums), Mike Lindup (keyboards/vocals), Nathan King (guitar/vocals) and Sean Freeman (saxophone/vocals).

Level 42 took the Eighties by storm with their distinctive brand of jazz-funk, driven by Mark King’s trademark percussive ‘slap’ bass guitar technique.

Since the band’s debut in 1980, they’ve released 14 studio albums, seven live albums, and six compilation albums – and have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. Their 18 Top 40 singles include: ‘Lessons in Love’, ‘Something About You’, ‘Leaving Me Now’, ‘Running in the Family’, and ‘Hot Water’.

Although Level 42 stopped touring and recording in 1994, founding member and frontman Mark King continued under his own name – keeping the band’s loyal fan base happy during the rest of the Nineties by retaining his distinctive ‘slap’ bass and songwriting style.

In 2001, King acquired the rights to the name ‘Level 42’ and took the band back out on the road again. In 2006, original member Mike Lindup also returned to the fold.

Universal Music is apparently set to re-issue the band’s classic Running in the Family album in a Deluxe Edition format, with the original single CD album expanded into a double-CD package. The second disc will include previously unreleased bonus material. Extended re-issues of the albums True Colours and Standing in the Light are also expected to be released at the same time.

Both Mark King and Mike Lindup have been quoted as saying they are considering recording a new studio album. There are also rumours that King, Lindup and the other members of the band are already working on new material, with a view to releasing an album in 2009.
